Quantum-enhanced Perovskite crystal scintillators for Innovative X-ray photon-counting in medical imaging and other applications (QuPIX)

We are proud to announce that the proposal “Quantum-enhanced Perovskite crystal scintillators for Innovative X-ray photon-counting in medical imaging and other applications (QuPIX)”, financed by the European Commission through the Program HORIZON-EIC-2025-PATHFINDEROPEN (EIC Pathfinder 2025) has been accepted for funding.

QuPIX will achieve a breakthrough in the accuracy, affordability, and scalability of X-ray PCDs through the development and integration of two radically new technologies, both emerging from recent scientific research: QuPS and μAPCs.
QuPS are a novel class of scintillators that exploit quantum-mechanical principles such as exciton confinement and the Purcell effect to greatly enhance luminescence efficiency and speed.
QuPIX will utilize the unique properties of these new photonic materials to almost instantaneously convert the energy of each X-ray photon into a proportional number of optical photons. These scintillation photons will be counted and converted into an electrical signal by means of a μAPC, a solid-state photosensor with unique characteristics ideally suited for application in PCDs.
